Ice blocks frozen for thousands of years in the arctic are now thawing 70 years before predicted.

The prediction is one that should not be being made anyway and the climate crisis is escalating at a simply unbelievable rate. A team from the University of Alaska Fairbanks said they were astounded by how quickly a succession of hot summers had destabilised the upper layers of the giant subterranean ice blocks that have been solid for thousands of years. Vladimir Romanovsky speaking to Reuters said 'It's and indication that the climate is now warmer than at any time in the last 5000 or more years'.

Romanovsky, along with his colleagues visiting exceptionally remote parts of the delta they hadn't visited since 2016, said they were confronted by a landscape unrecognisable from the pristine arctic terrain they had visited a decade previous. Vegetation once sparce had now begun to flourish.

The main worry apart from the sheer levels of water released is the the release of heat trapped gasses unleashing a cycle that will rapidly increase the climate crisis.
